Scope-to-SOW Converter — Quick Start
You just got a free Claude skill. Here's how to use it.
What You Need
- A Claude Pro account (or higher) at claude.ai — Skills require a paid plan
- A prospect conversation — call notes, email thread, voice transcript, text messages. Anything that captures what the prospect said and what they need.
Setup (One Time)
Step 1: Enable Code Execution
Skills require Code execution to be enabled. If you've never turned this on:
- Click your name or initials in the bottom-left corner
- Click Settings
- Click Capabilities
- Toggle on Code execution and file creation
If this is already on, skip to Step 2.
Step 2: Upload the Skill
- In the left sidebar, click the Customize icon (briefcase icon)
- Click Skills
- Click the "+" button
- Select "Upload a skill"
- Upload the ZIP file you received
- Toggle the skill on
That's it. The skill is installed.
Running the Skill
- Start a new conversation in Claude
- Type: "Run the Scope-to-SOW Converter"
- Answer the one setup question — what your practice does and what you typically charge
- Paste a prospect conversation
- Wait about 90 seconds
You'll get back a 6-section proposal package: the conversation read (verifying the skill heard them correctly), a service recommendation, scope definition with deliverables and exclusions, the actual SOW ready to send, scope protection notes (internal — the 3 ways this engagement will try to expand), and a confidence check telling you what's solid and what to verify.
Tips
Answer the pricing question. The skill calibrates the investment to your rates and the scope. If you skip it, you get a pricing placeholder — still useful, but you add a step before sending.
More conversation = better SOW. Brief call notes give you a basic proposal. A full transcript or multi-email thread gives you deliverables, exclusions, and pricing matched to what they said.
Read the Scope Protection Notes before the kickoff. These aren't in the proposal — they're for you. The 3 creep risks and the boundary language for each. Most people don't anticipate these until the first invoice dispute.
Send it the same day. The whole point is speed. Good conversation Tuesday, proposal sent Tuesday. Not reconstructed from memory on Sunday night.
What to Paste
Any of these work:
- Call notes (handwritten or typed)
- Email thread with the prospect
- Voice memo transcript (auto-generated is fine)
- Text messages or chat logs
- Zoom/meeting notes
Messy is fine. Partial is fine. The skill extracts what's there and flags what's missing in the Confidence Check.
